Life’s Reflection

Of

Ann Redmond

“For I am now ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”

II Timothy 4:6-7

Ann Saffold (Porter) Redmond was born April 24, 1932 in Lexington, Mississippi to the union of Lula Hodges Saffold and Moses Saffold, Sr.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, James Porter; Leslie Porter, Sr.; Harry Porter; Claude Porter; Lindbergh Porter, Sr.; Eugene Saffold; and Moses Saffold, Jr.; one daughter, Lula B. Hullaby; one son in law, Travis Hullaby; and one grandson, Tristan T. Hullaby.

Ann received her education from Ambrose School in Lexington, Mississippi.

She relocated to Kansas City, Kansas and united in holy matrimony to Will (Jack) Redmond, who preceded her in death in June of 2012.

Ann accepted Christ at an early age.  She joined Antioch Baptist Church with her husband when she first came to Kansas.  She then joined Pleasant Green Baptist Church, and finally joined Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. R. C. Higgs.  Ann was active in the Nurses Guild, the Music Department, Sunday School, and a member of the Mission Joy Circle.

Ann worked for several hospitals in the city including Bethany Hospitals Respiratory Therapy Department where she retired after twenty years.

She was a volunteer Grandparent at Wyandotte High School where she was affectionately known as “Grandma Redmond” by the students  Ann was also involved in neighborhood and community outreach, and was the "Block Captain" for Walker Avenue.  She loved her front porch where ever body waved to her from every car that passed by.  Ann also loved to play her piano and organ which she played for Christ Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Turner, before her health failed.

Ann was a Christian praying woman.  She remained prayerful and grateful to God throughout her illness.

She was extremely close to her seven older brothers and had a loving relationship with her nieces, nephews, and cousins.  That love and family devotion was carried down to her own children.  Family meant everything to her! She enjoyed being home surrounded by family.

Ann never met a Stranger, was very friendly and outgoing and many valued her motherly advice.  She was a humble lady and enjoyed the simple things in life.  She just loved making a joyful noise unto the Lord playing her piano.

The Lord welcomed Ann into her new home on Monday January 25, 2016.  She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Travis H. Redmond; and Keith M. Redmond; five daughters, Sylvia L Watson; Bernice D. Thomas; Cathy Murphy (Marvin); Evonne Brockman (Dennis); LaVonna Holland (Jeffery); grandsons, Chris; Michael; Kanan; Steven; and Dennis, Jr.; granddaughters, Torrian; Ashley; Desireé; and DeVonna; great grandchildren, Whitleigh; Paige; Chris; Tristan; Michael, Jr.; Steven, III; Tyshaunna; and TeYannah; Great Great Grandchildren, Elijah; Nia; and Mylah; special nephew and niece David and Bonnie Goldsmith.
