Kansas City, KS — Thatcher’s Funeral Home proudly announced its sponsorship of the W. C. Panthers, a youth football team affiliated with the MO-KAN American Youth Football Association. Thatcher’s hosted the old-fashioned cook out on a lot next door to their business for team members, their families and the community, on Saturday, July 24th. The cook out provided an excellent opportunity to introduce the team to the community and meet neighbors.
The W. C. Panthers under the guidance of Michael Wheeler, Jr. had a winning season last year with the 7th Grade Team winning the MO-KAN Bi-State Bowl 7th Grade Division Championship in the American Youth Football (AYF) National Tournament.
This year more than 95 youth (boys and girls) between the ages of 5 and 13 are part of the 4 football teams and 2 cheerleading squads. The mission of W.C. Panthers is to BUILD-UP (Believe, Understand, Inspire, Love and Develop-Uplift) through athletic programs. The teams also encourage physical and mental growth through competition, academics, sportsmanship, teamwork and a special emphasis on producing productive, responsible young men and women benefiting our communities.
“The W.C. Panthers Executive Board, coaches and staff truly appreciate the support of the Thatcher Funeral Home and looking forward to a long-term partnership,” said Michael Wheeler, Jr., WC Panthers Coach. “Without Thatcher’s support, we wouldn’t be able to get our helmets and shoulder pads reconditioned.”
“Thatcher’s Funeral Home is proud of the youth of our community and we are especially proud to be a sponsor of the WC Panthers,” said Robert Davis Owner and General Manager of Thatcher’s Funeral Home. “We believe our community is important to the development of future generations, we want to be a part of that future.”
Thatcher’s Funeral Home is located at 1520 N. 5th Street in Kansas City, KS. A part of the Kansas City, KS community since 1912, Thatcher’s Funeral Home is the only locally owned African-American funeral home in the area.
