Life’s Reflection
Say not in grief he is no more- but live in thankfulness that he was. (Hebrew Proverb)
Randy “RJ” Jones was born to Henry Yeager and Elizabeth Davis on September 21, 1975. Spending his adolescent years in Kansas City, KS.
RJ attended Metropolitan Baptist Church where he sang in the Children's Choir and served as an usher. He graduated from Wyandotte High School as captain of the varsity football team and was crowned king of the Sweetheart Dance. He went on to attend Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS on a Kauffman scholarship.
While at Pitt State RJ active on campus as a member of the Pitt State Gorilla football team and singing in the "Proverbs 3:56" Gospel Choir. After attending a school track meet it was there he caught the attention of his soon to be wife Tiffany. They dated throughout college and upon graduation Randy received his Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Design. The couple relocated back to Kansas City and was married in 2004. Out of that union they have one vibrant eight year old daughter Zion Renae Jones who is a competitive member of the Byrd’s Dance and Gymnastics team.
He was kind, creative, passionate and charming...
Many will remember RJ for his outgoing personality and light hearted sense of humor. Always the life of the party or the first to crack a joke with his quick wit, he cultivated numerous lifelong friendships. He spent a great deal of his time outdoors enjoying lawn care, refining his barbecuing techniques (he smoked a mean Thanksgiving turkey) and most recently exploring fishing as a hobby. He was an avid KU basketball, Pittsburgh Steelers and Chiefs football fan complete with a vast collection of t-shirts that would make any team member proud.
...and he was also always late!
“He was always late on principle, his principle being that punctuality was the thief of time.” -Oscar Wilde
If you've ever had the pleasure of setting an appointment with RJ you knew that 3:00 really meant 3:15 and that 3:15 could actually turn into 4:00. It became a running joke in the family and the great irony of someone who always ran a few minutes behind is that RJ surely departed from us too soon. He passed away on June 30, 2015 at the young age of 39.
He is preceded in death by his father Henry Yeager, grandfather Nathaniel Jones and grandmother Mary Jones.
He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife, Tiffany Jones; a daughter, Zion Jones; mother, Elizabeth Davis; a stepfather, Mark Davis; grandparents: Viola and Henry Yeager; siblings, Alisa Jones, LaTonya Yeager, LaBrea Johnson, Shalanda (TiwJuan) Griffin, Tracie Davis, Denisha (Brandon) White, Don Hill, and Pierre Jacobs. In addition to a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
The 1994 graduating class of Wyandotte High School would like to present Zion Jones with the randy L. Jones Memorial Scholarship in memory of her father.
