Ms. Leona Berry was born November 15, 1938 in Atkins, Arkansas to the union of Alfred Berry and Altha Stokes Berry. On August 15, 2016 she slept into eternity, surrounded in her home by family and friends who loved her dearly.
She confessed her faith in Christ at an early age, and was baptized into the Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church family.
She was educated in the Morrilton, Arkansas public school system, and later moved to Kansas City, Kansas where she spent most of her adult life. She joined Trinity A.M.E church in 1963, and served in various capacities until her health began to fail.
Leona retired from General Motors Corporation after almost 25 years of service, but will be most remembered for her wonderful baking skills and the delicious sweets she loved to prepare and share with everyone.
She was a consummate mother and homemaker at heart, with a strong work ethic which she passed on to all of her children. She loved her family beyond measure, and her family loved her the same.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Alfred Berry, Jr., and Alex Henry Berry.
To carry on her legacy, she leaves three sons, Emmett Lockridge (Sherri), Thomas Eason (Ruby), Alfred Chris Eason (Jeanette), and one daughter Brenda Rucker (Chauncey), all of the Kansas City area; eleven grandchildren, special loves Damon Chandler of Concord, CA, and Ashley Eason of KY; Jobert Lockridge, Samuel Lockridge, Emmett Lockridge III, Miles Lockridge, KeVaughn Eason, Kaulon Eason, Shakeva Eason, Dalisha Eason, Tyler Eason, all of the Kansas City area, and step-granddaughter Lisa Wallace; four great-grandchildren, Tayveon, Folorian, Hailey and Kyree; brothers, James Berry (Gloria) and Curtis Berry; sisters, Naomi Berry, Emogene James (Albert, Sr. ), all of Arkansas, and Bernice McReynolds (Terry) of Kansas City, KS; nephews, Albert James, Jr (Yolanda), Paul James (Tammie), Erick McReynolds, Xavier Berry and Malcolm Berry; special God-daughter Brenda Hayes, and a host of other family and friends who loved her dearly.
