Life’s Reflections

Raymond Garlington was born September 23, 1922 in Hattieville, Arkansas to the union of Jackson Walter Garlington and Ida  Patterson Garlington.  He was one of fourteen    children born to this union.

Ray attended school in Cleveland, Arkansas.  He  also professed his desire to follow Christ at an early age and united with the New Prospect Baptist Church in Cleveland, Arkansas.  He recently rededicated his life and united with Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church in Kansas City, Kansas.

Raymond gave his service to our country by serving in the United States Army from October 30, 1942 to  January 8, 1946 after receiving an Honorable       Discharge.  He was a cook while in the Army and cooking was something that he really loved and he passed that skill on to his son and daughters.

Raymond was united in marriage to Wanda Mae Ross and to this union four      children were born.  He moved his family from Arkansas to Kansas City, Kansas in 1950.  He then began his career as a self-employed construction worker and poured concrete all over Kansas and Missouri.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Jackson and Ida Garlington, as well as six brothers and five sisters and his only son, Raythan Edward Garlington.

Raymond leaves to cherish his memory his daughters:  Carolyn Faye Worten, Juanita Mae Jones (Cleophas) and Michelle Evonne Garlington; daughter in-law, Linda Garlington; brothers, Roann “Roy” Garlington (Viola) and Elmo “Jack” Garlington (Maxine); grandchildren; Anthony Garlington, Shannel Worten, Cleophas Jones, Jr., Bridget Thompson (Stanford), Kimberly Lavender (Lance), Rasul Brown, Jess E. Worten,II, Michael Jones, Marlon Jones, Sr., Kisha Neros, (Roderick), Shavon Adams and Alaina Garlington; twenty one great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildrenHe also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
