Life's Reflections

Joseph Fitzgerald Smith, Sr., was born to the union of Jimmy Wayne Smith and Paulette Wells Smith on August 11, 1964 in Kansas City, Kansas.  He was the third child of five.  He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Jimmy Wayne, Jr.

Joseph was baptized at an early age at Pleasant Green Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. David L. Gray.  Later the family moved their membership to Bible Temple Missionary Baptist Church where he became a member under the leadership  of Rev. B. J. Rodgers.  He was educated in the Kansas City Kansas Unified School District attending Bryant Elementary, Lindbergh Elementary, Coronado Jr. High and graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1982.  During his childhood Joe was a member of the Boy Scouts  of America and played football for many years.

 Joseph was good with his hands and was mechanically inclined and always had projects working on cars and motorcycles.  Joseph decided to use his ability working on cars and enrolled in the Area Vocational Technical School his senior year of high school and received his Automotive Mechanics Certification and soon thereafter he opened an auto repair shop.  He later continued his education and enrolled in Sullivan Institute of  to learn about HVAC and received his HVAC Certification which led to his true calling and began his journey as the owner/operator of “Smitty’s Heating and Cooling”.  He was the proud owner of his business for over 20 years. 

In 1981, he  became  the proud father of his daughter, Schiantel and in 1986 his son, Joseph Jr. (Lil Joe).  In 2008 he married Tylisha and  became the father to Asiaun and Alyncia.  He loved his family and friends and often did good deeds to help his fellow man.  Joe spared no expense when it came to helping someone.  He sometimes took a loss to make sure his friends, family and clients were taken care of.  

Joseph departed this earthly life on April  21, 2016.

He leaves to cherish his memory  his wife, Tylisha Smith; his loving mother, Paulette Smith; one son, Joseph F. Smith, Jr. ; three daughters, Schiantel N. (Chris) Britt, Asiaun Mack-Smith and Alyncia Mack-Smith all of Kansas City, Kansas; and two brothers, Jimmy Darrell Smith (Angela) of Gladstone, Missouri and Mark Wayne Smith (Michelle) Smith of Kansas City, Kansas; and one sister Pamela R.
