Life's Portrait

Sister Janelle Estelle Duncan Buchanan was born December 5, 1972 in Kansas City, MO to Jannie W. Duncan and Kenneth O'Neil Duncan. She transitioned to her heavenly home on July 2, 2015 after sharing her love with family and friends for 42 years. She was loving and compassionate and was a friend to everyone she met. All were captivated by her deep dimples and she was affectionately known by family and friends as Jay.

Sister Buchanan was a graduate of Washington High School, Kansas City, KS and she received her Associate Arts Degree from Kansas City Kansas Community College. Upon graduating from KCKCC, she entered the business community working for Westin Crown Center in the Brasserie as a hostess and later a position in their accounting department. This lucrative job working with finances led to other business ventures at Kmart, Douglas Bank and Farmers Insurance. Jay had a strong work ethic, loved working with finances and was very precise and honest in all of her efforts.

In 2004, Thomas, Jasmine, Jaylynn, Tiara, Jessie Jr., and WaVonne invited Friends and family to share the love of their parents, Janelle and Jessie Wayne Buchanan as they united in holy matrimony. This love flourished until her final transition to the heavens above.

The Buchanan family united with the New Bethel Church in 2005 where Jay served in the following ministries; Usher board, an active mother of the NBC Football Team, an active parental participant of 8-Count Dance Ministry, attended Sunday services regularly along with Life Impact services and participated in the NBC Marriage Retreat. Jay was a mother who encouraged her children to have a strong spiritual background and to develop a personal relationship with God.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Jessie Wayne Buchanan, Sr., her daughters Jaylynn Buchanan, Jasmine Duncan, WaVonne Buchanan, and Tiara Anderson; her sons Thomas Duncan and Jessie Buchanan Jr., two grandsons and two granddaughters. Her parents, Jannie W. Duncan and Kenneth O. Duncan (Portia). Sisters Kendra Maxwell (Dennis), Shawniece Gipson (Scott), Evette Bankhead and Crystal Bankhead. Grandmother, Suretta Wright; Play sister, Teia Bennett; A special cousin, Lloyd Matthews; three nieces, three nephews and a host of cousins, family and friends.
