Life’s Reflections

Danny Louis Nelson was born April 16, 1946 to the union of Rosella “Bill” Graham and Louis C. Nelson in Memphis, Tennessee. Danny was reared by his special Aunt Sarah and Uncle Fred Edwards. His mother later entered into matrimony with James Alexander, Sr. Danny was preceded to Glory by his Mother and Father, Stepfather, Aunt and Uncle, his brother James Alexander, Jr. and sisters Thelma Rivers and Cleosie “Honey” Nelson.

Danny accepted Christ at an early age. He was educated in Memphis, Tennessee. He served honorably in the United States Army. Danny was employed by the Federal Government for several years. He was employed by Wagner Industries where he retired after 25 years of employment. After retirement, Danny became a bus driver for USD 500 School District. He retired after five years. He was currently employed by Walmart as a greeter. That infectious smile and witty personality was truly contagious.  He loved and was loved by children and adults alike.

Danny  married his “Princess” on May 4, 1991.   God allowed them  to share 25  blessed years together. One was seldom seen without the other.

Danny was a faithful and active member of Bethel Baptist Church where he  sang in the Male Chorus and the Adult Choir. He also served as an Usher as well as a Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher. He was Co-Chairman of the Deacon Board.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Norma Nelson: Brothers: Jerryl Alexander (Evelyn),  William Olden (Velma) and Darrelle Baker; Sisters: Christine Merriweather, Audra Melvin, Debra Cowan and Cynthia Chaffen (Rudolph), all of Memphis, Tennessee. Sons: Wade Cozart (Melinda), Danny Nelson, Jr., Danny Paden (Bessie) and Jermaine Paden, all of Kansas City, Missouri; Daughters: Remona Hooker and Shelonda Nelson, of Kansas City, Missouri, Marquetta Paden, Chillicothe, MO, Jaya Paden, Kansas City, Kansas and La Tanya Paden of Kansas City, Missouri. He was “Pop” to Sons-in-love Aaron Heard and Pastor Eric Calhoun (Patricia) of Kansas City, Kansas. He leaves 29 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, which includes Renee Heard and Markelo Paden, who were raised by Danny and his wife, Norma. He leaves one aunt, Pearline Lovett, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends and acquaintances.
