Carol Jean “Puddin” Reece

“An Angel Touched Her and She Slept”

 

Carol Jean “Puddin” Reese was born November 6, 1949, to Anthony Smith and Juanita (Norman) Smith in Kansas City, Missouri.

Carol accepted Christ at an early age at the Holy Temple Church of God and Christ under the leadership of Bishop Chambers. She later moved her membership to This Rock Christian Tabernacle Church and was a loyal and devoted member under the pastorship of Senior Pastor George W. Reese, Jr. until her passing.

She attended school in the Kansas City, Missouri School District and graduated from Manuel High School, Class of 1966. She continued her education at Vatterott College in Kansas City, Missouri and received a Certificate in Nursing. She was employed at the J. C. Penny Company for three years and volunteered for Lady Ann Catering.

Carol loved life, her family, church, soul food, dancing, and was long-known for her sense of humor; she was a skilled card and domino player and enjoyed skating and traveling.

She was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Missouri where she was a devoted and caring mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend.

In 1972, she was united in matrimony to Clearthur Calhoun for 13 years. She later married Joseph Reese.

On Monday, August 22, 2016, the victory was won, Carol went home to glory.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, James Norman; grandmother, Beatrice Smith; father, Anthony Smith; three brothers, Anthony Smith, Richard Smith, and Billy Ray Smith; one sister, Linda M. Tucker; one nephew, Montel Sherrils-Smith; one uncle, Amos Holloway; one aunt, Rosie Rogers; and one great-aunt, Olivia Coffey.

She leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory: one son, Shawn Norman of Irving, Texas; four daughters, Watquita Harris, Dionne Norman-Lockett (Matthew), Carla Norman, and Erica Calhoun all of Kansas City, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren all of Kansas City, Missouri; her beloved mother, Juanita Smith of Kansas City, Missouri; two brothers, Johnny Norman (Deniece) of Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico; John H. Smith (Kim) of Raymore, Missouri; four sisters, Evadene E. Smith of Kansas City, Missouri; Toni D. Smith of Kansas City, Missouri; Ann Washington-Hill (Marvin) of Overland Park, Kansas; Barbara Wiley (Mike) of Overland Park, Kansas; one sister-in-law, Germaine Taylor of Kansas City, Missouri; other relatives, the Black family; Bunch family all of Fort Smith, Arkansas; Rogers family of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; Chambers family of Spiro, Oklahoma; Sherrils family; Taylor family; Smith family all of Kansas City, Missouri; Godmother, Bertha Denmon of Kansas City, Missouri; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended families; the Reese family; Denmon family; Dawkins family; Dalton family, and many friends.
