Life’s Reflection
Right now we’re sad and broken,
But as the healing starts…
Remember she’ll forever live
Deep within our hearts.
Artna Jean Davis was born on October 11, 1929 to Itaska and Calvin Horton. Jean, as she was affectionately known, received her formal education through the Kansas City, KS Public School System. She graduated from Sumner High School in 1947. She later furthered her education and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was employed at the University of Kansas Medical Center Pediatric Clinic and later at Johnson County Pediatrics.
In her spare time, Jean enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking and watching sports. She also enjoyed visits with family and friends while sitting on the front porch.
Jean accepted Christ as her Savior at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas. She later joined Salem Baptist Church where she was an active and faithful member for over 20 years. In 2006 she united with Philadelphia Bible Church where she continued to offer faithful service to the Lord until her illness prevented her from attending on a regular basis.
Jean was truly a blessing to all those who knew her. She departed this life on October 7, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Davis, daughter Jacquelyn “Jackie” Cartwright and three siblings Hazel Wells, Wilson “Pete” Horton, and Beckwith Horton. She leaves to cherish her memory one son Glenn (Sheila) Davis, two daughters Judith (Lloyd) Hysten, and Gail Davis; four siblings Charles Horton, Valaska Matthews, Wilburt (Claudean) Horton, Michael (Bobbie) Horton, and companion Fred Smith. She will also be deeply missed by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
