Wilma Margaret Wilson (Tootsie) was born on December 1, 1926, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Willie J. Sloan and Marguerite Goudeau Sloan.
Wilma was the youngest of nine children, seven girls and two boys.
She married Freddy Wilson Sr. in 1940, to this union six children were born. Freddie Mae, Oweader, Portia, Freddy, Michael, and Cynthia.
With her family, Wilma relocated to Kansas City, Kansas in the summer of 1952. She was affectionally known as “Tootsie”. She owned and operated the Queen Bee restaurant and managed the King Bee club. She held many jobs, the Kansas City poultry and egg plant, Sunshine Biscuits, Housekeeping, School bus driver, Firelight liquor store, Byers party shop and liquor store, and City Fish Market. Officially retiring at the age of 92.
Wilma loved playing bingo, quilting, cooking, traveling, listening to blues and her favorite group the Staples Singers. She loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed sitting on the porch drinking coffee.
Wilma loved her family and frequently had gatherings so she could cook for everyone. She especially loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Elizabeth, Bertha, Hilda, Wilda, Gussie, Jean, brothers Walter, Ora, two daughters Freddie Mae Wilson and Portia Warrior, and Freddy Wilson, Sr., husband.
She departed this life on Monday, October 7, 2024, in her home surrounded by her family.
Wilma leaves to cherish in her memory, her children, Oweader Brownlee (Tom), Freddy (Chiquita) Wilson, Michael Wilson, and Cynthia Richardson; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren, a special daughter-in-law Adoria Wilson, a son-in-law Eddie Brownlee, Brownlee family neighbors, and her close friend Dorothy. She also leaves a host of family members.
