Willie Hines Obituary

Life’s Reflections

Willie Jean “Bill” McIntosh Hines entered the world on February 8, 1938 in Boynton, Oklahoma.  She was the 12th child born to the union of James Wesley and Lillian (McKnight) McIntosh, the last link in the McIntosh chain.

Willie Jean accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at First Baptist Church of Boynton.  She attended Boynton High School where she met her high school sweetheart, Russell Hines.  Willie Jean and Russell married on June 10, 1957 and in 1958 they relocated to Kansas City, Missouri where they began their family.  From this union three beautiful daughters were born; Terri Lynne, Cheryl and Patrice.  The Hines family joined Good Samaritan Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Walter Witherspoon where Sister Hines blessed the congregation with her melodic voice.  She later joined Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of Pastor Michael E. Brooks where she faithfully sang in the choir with her siblings and served on the Mother Board.

Willie Jean began her career with the Internal Revenue Service in the early 1960s.  There she held several positions and received numerous awards and accolades.  She retired from the IRS in 1995 to care for and spend time with her grandchildren.  Once “her babies” were of school age, Willie Jean returned to the workforce, taking positions at Durham and First Students Bus companies to fulfill her calling of helping children with special needs.  After many years of service, she retired for a second time to take on her most cherished position, the role of GiGi, taking care for her great-grandchildren whom she adored.  And they her.

Willie Jean is preceded in death by her parents James and Lillian McIntosh; daughter Terri Lynne Hines; husband Russell Hines; sisters Augustus Shoats, Arvella Johnson, Erma Jean Adams and Delois Brown; brothers Eugene McIntosh, James Willard McIntosh and Carl McIntosh; and youngest granddaughter D’heardra Block.  Willie Jean is most recently followed by brother Woodrow McIntosh.

Willie Jean Hines, affectionately referred to as “Mom”, “Granny”, “Granny Ma”, “GiGi”, “Aunt Bill”, “WJ”, “Ms. Willie”, “Willis” and “Hines”, was loved and adored by all.  She was a rock and source of strength, not only for her family, but for all she encountered in her life’s journey.  Many turned to her for advice, spiritual guidance, unconditional love and refuge.  She leaves behind to cherish her loving memories:  two daughters Cheryl (Winfred) Clayton of Kansas City, MO and Patrice (Dwayne) Block of Grandview, MO; four grandchildren La’Nae (Paul) Robinson of Aldie, VA, Rodney (LaTonya) Block of Kansas City, MO, DaJuan Clayton of Houston, TX and La’Nesha (Raphael) Frazier of Kansas City, MO; five great-grandchildren Ivana Robinson, Christian Jarrett, Alyssa Robinson, Paul Robinson II and Kennedi Frazier; two sisters Odessa Love and Wilma Matthews; brother Russell (Joan) McIntosh Sr.; sister-in-law Ruth McIntosh; two brothers-in-law Reginald (Sibohan) Hines Sr. and Glenroy Hines Sr. and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
