Life Reflection
Willie Venetta Clemons (87) was born on May 20, 1935, in Centertown, MO to Arthur Warren and Gladys (Driver) Warren Holmes. The family moved from Centertown to Jefferson City; then relocated to Kansas City. Venetta grew up on 3rd & Franklin in Kansas City, Kansas where she made many life-long friends. She attended Kansas City Kansas Public Schools – Stowe/Douglass Elementary School, Northeast Junior High School, and Sumner High School.
On May 18, 1963, Venetta married Chester H. Clemons, sharing more than 40 years together. To this union three children were born.
Venetta spent a lifetime caring for others. Not only was she a wonderful homemaker but when her children were young, she volunteered as a pre-school teacher. For several years, she took care of a foster child and she also made time to care for an elderly family friend. In the early 80s, Venetta went to work outside the home to help with her children’s college expenses. One of her greatest joys was watching her grandchildren until they were old enough to go to school.
Venetta accepted Christ and was baptized at Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Robert Penn. She was a faithful member at Pleasant Green for 76 years. She regularly attended Sunday School and served in several ministries: including, the Church Choir, Nursery Ministry, and Deaconess Board.
Venetta spent countless hours creating hundreds of knitted scarves that she shared with family and friends. She also donated many of her scarves to the University of Kansas Cancer Center and other charities. Venetta loved butterflies and flowers; daisies were her favorite. And every Spring and Summer she spent time ‘supervising’ the gardening at her home.
Venetta went home to be with the Lord on June 9, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband Chester; her parents Gladys & Harold Holmes; her father Arthur Warren; her brother Harold Holmes, Jr.; and her bonus-daughter Phyllis Clemons.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her (3) children - Vicki Clemons, Chester Clemons, Leon Harold Clemons; grandchildren Mariesha Clemons, Devin Clemons, Helena Minor (Tre); sister Beverly Holmes; sister-in-law Alice Woods; brother-in-law Elliott Clemons (Beverly); cousin Imogene Naraine, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
