William G. Nelson passed away peacefully at his home on July 4, 2025.
He was born on February 10, 1935, in Cameron, Texas, to William Joe Nelson and Bessie Nelson-Stevenson. William grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Douglas High School in El Paso, Texas.
He later began a long and dedicated career as a driver with the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA), where he worked for 35 years and received several awards in recognition of his service.
William married the love of his life, Marilyn, in Oklahoma. They shared 26 happy years of marriage.
William had a passion for traveling, whether it was going on road trips or simply driving around the city. He loved football—especially cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs—and enjoyed fishing. Known for his warm and outgoing nature, William loved talking to people and connecting with everyone he met. He also had a deep love for animals and cherished spending time with his family and friends.
He was affectionately known as “Uncle Daddy” by his nieces and nephews, a reflection of the deep bond and lasting impact he had on their lives.
William was preceded in death by his parents, William Joe Nelson and Bessie Nelson-Stevenson; and his siblings, Darcus Jones, Wilma Earl (Herbert), and Carl Nelson (Pat).
He is survived by his devoted wife, Marilyn, of Kansas City, Kansas; his sons, William R. and Albanic Logan, both of Kansas City, Kansas; his sister, Brenda J. Terry of Canton, Michigan; 13 grandchildren through marriage; 16 nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
