Ms. Wanda Jean White was the youngest child born to Frank and Alberta Miller. She was born October 1, 1942, in Kansas City, Kansas, where she attended school. Upon graduation from Sumner High School, she attended Kansas City Kansas Junior College. In 1962, she continues her education at Lincoln University but later transferred to Emporia State Teachers College, where she majored in Spanish and German.
After graduation, Wanda began her teaching career in Keokuk, Iowa, then moved to Seattle, Washington where she taught for one year. Wanda moved on to Los Angeles where she worked at Capital Records.
In 1970, she returned to Kansas City, Kansas, and taught at Northeast Junior High School, Washington, Schlagle High Schools and Wyandotte High School. She retired in 1999. Her love for children inspired her to work with the Northeast Optimist Club and sponsor essay contests. She also took students on field trips to St. Louis, Chicago, and Mexico City.
At the age of six, she began to take piano lessons and began to play at her home church, Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She went on to play for Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri, Tabernacle Missionary Church and Patmos Church both in Kansas City, Kansas. Wanda had a winning personality. She loved God and his people. Wanda had a passion for decorating, cooking, and making others happy. She loved bringing a smile to other faces.
Wanda pledged to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority while attending Lincoln University. She also was a member of the Eastern Star, Cyrene Heroine of Jerica, and America Association of Unica Women
Preceding her in death were her parents, Frank Sr., and Alberta Miller; brothers, Frank Jr.; Wilbert; and Alva; sisters, Christabel; Evelyn; Ruth; and Mildred.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved companion Keith Annez Townsend; Keith Jr.; Shawn Norwood; Henrietta Young; and Tillmon Wallace; a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
