WENDELL GUESS

Wendell Eugene Guess, 73, passed away on December 12, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, MO.

Wendell was born on November 12, 1951, in Topeka, KS to Harris Smith and Juanita Guess.

He grew up in Kansas City, KS, and graduated from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, KS in 1969. After High School, he attended Donnelly College and St. Mary University where he received an associate degree in Business Administration.

Wendell worked for KCK District 500 as a substitute teacher where he worked for 17 years. He also worked as an NPB-Security Guard, Post Office, General Motors, Census Taker, and voting poll worker. 

He was involved at New Fellowship Baptist Church as an Usher President and kitchen assistant.

Wendell married Diana in October 1990 in Kansas City, KS. They were happily married for 34 years.

Wendell enjoyed dancing to James Brown's music, shooting pool, dominoes, and cards. He loved to write poems, and he loved to socialize and watch cowboy movies.

Wendell was preceded in death by his parents Harris Smith and Juanita Guess, his father-in-law David Strong and his baby brother Melvin.

Wendell is survived by his wife Diana Guess of Kansas City, KS, his stepsons, Husani Neal, and Ahmad Neal; his Special grandson, Hasaun Neal; his sister, Renee (Curtis) Walker of Kansas City, KS; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives and friends.
