Theresa Ann (Simon) Thatcher

Life’s Reflection

Theresa Ann Simon Thatcher, affectionately known as “Tesa, Tee, TT, Grandma T, and Aunt T”, was born on February 5, 1928 in Houston, TX. She was the ninth of 18 children born to Benjamin and Beulah Simon.

Theresa moved to the Kansas City area in the early 1950’s. She met and married Marion “Pete” Thatcher on September 7th, 1954 and to this union 3 children were born. He preceded her in death in 1963.

Theresa was an active member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church then Our Lady & St. Rose Catholic Church since 1954. She was a very loving and kind-hearted person with a gentle and generous spirit that touched the lives of all those she met. Theresa found joy in helping others, especially children. After working as a baker at Our Lady & St. Rose School cafeteria until the school closed in 1983, she started a home childcare service where she loved and cared for many children.

Her favorite things to do included reading, working crossword puzzles, watching crime tv, eating breakfast at IHOP, and hosting her annual Christmas season gumbo gathering.

Theresa went to be with the Lord for her eternal rest on December 29th, 2019.

She is survived by son, Marion “Pete” Thatcher Jr. (Julie) of Seattle, WA; daughters, Jeanna Thatcher of Kansas City, Kansas.; and Susan Thatcher of Houston, TX; honorary grandchildren Christopher Herviey, Terrance Herviey, Rikayla Barnett Watson, and Racquel Barnett all of Kansas City, KS.

She leaves behind her sister Rita Cullum of Houston, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors to cherish her memory.
