Tecumseh Long Jr. (a.k. Uncle Juno, Uncle T and T) passed away on November 16, 2025, at his home in Kansas City, Kansas.
Tecumseh, father Tecumseh Long Sr and mother Julia (Versey) Long left their Arkansas roots for Kansas City, Kansas, in 1943 during the Great Migration. Tecumseh was the first child of two children born in Kansas City, Kansas.
Tecumseh grew up in KCK, and he enjoyed spending summer vacations on his grandmother's farm in Arkansas.
He attended Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools, Northeast Junior High and graduated from Sumner High School in 1962. He also attended Kansas City, Kansas Community College for one year.
Tecumseh was baptized at the Antioch Baptist Church (KCK), where he sang in the Youth choir. As an adult, he became a member of Stanger Rest Baptist Church.
Tecumseh was employed as an adolescent by independent neighborhood (Slaughters and Moore's) grocery stores as a stocker and delivery boy. After high school, he was employed by Burlington Northern in the mail room, which was in the Union Station and, Levi Strauss on 5th Street in Kansas City, Kansas.
Tecumseh was drafted into the Army at the age of 24. He was stationed in the Denver, Colorado area. Army E-4 Specialist was the military rank he obtained. In 1968, Tecumseh sustained a life-altering injury. He was treated in Edward Hines, Jr Veterans Hospital, in County, Illinois before coming home in 1970. Our beloved Uncle Juno never complained about spending over fifty years in a wheelchair.
Tecumseh volunteered, calling out Bingo numbers at DAV and local nursing homes. He enjoyed playing basketball, playing pool and listening to jazz music.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Brenda Jean Johnson Long after 42 years of marriage. His parents Tecumseh and Julia Long. His siblings Beatrice Byrd, Hiawatha Long, Dionysus Long, Monique Brown, Burnis Long and Willa Rose Long.
Survived by Bernice Johnson, Overland Park, Kansas, Curtis Long(Marylin) Keller, TX sister-in-law Georgia Long, Lenexa, Kansas and Special Niece Patricia Henderson, stepchildren-Michael (Ada) Marilyn, Mary, Michelle, Barry D, Ray, Robin, Keith and sister-in-law Ester (James) 19 surviving niece and nephews (three deceased nephews); abundance of great. Great-grand nieces and nephews (four generations). 19 step grandchildren, 52 step great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Lifelong blood brother friends James and Mickey Hill.
