Tanyika Freelon Obituary

Tanyika Freelon, 52 passed away on Monday January 6, 2025 at her home surrounded by family. She was born July 20, 1972 in Columbia, Missouri, to Darrell Sr. and Remona Freelon.  In her early years Tanyika proved to be an exceptional dancer.  She performed at June Neal Dance Studio, where she was later granted a role in the KC Ballet’s Nutcracker as a Jr. Sugar Fairy.  Tanyika later continue her passion for dance by teaching choreography and classes throughout the Kansas City area. No matter the circumstances of life, Tanyika stayed connected to the vine of Christ through the Metropolitan Baptist Church where she sung in many of the church’s music ministries including Youth, Mass Elements of Faith, and later EVE.

She attended F. L. Schlagle where she was a cheerleader, and the graduating class of 1990  Homecoming Queen. After high school she obtain her certificate from cosmetology school. Tanyika also working as a Para while sponsoring as an assistant girls track and field coach for Wyandotte high school. Later she returned to Wright Business School to complete her CNA program, where she later worked for Alliance Home Health until her health no longer permitted. Tanyika will always be remembered as a loving daughter, a nurturing mother, a supportive sister, that was full of life, joy, and laughter. 

Tanyika leaves to cherish her memories her parents Darrell Sr. and Remona Freelon, her daughter Shanee Howard and sons Davon and Tyron Harris, her Brother Darrell Jr. (Keia Freelon); her grandchildren Brielle Shaw, Darrin Shaw Jr., DaKari Harris, DaMoni Harris, Alana Harris, Michelle Jackson-Harris, Kyison Harris of Kansas City, KS, and a host of family members and friends.
