Life’s Reflection
Shelby Jean Seawood, 81 passed away on July 21, 2021, at her home in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born on September 2, 1939, in Homer, Louisiana to Joseph Watts and Anna Ollie Johnson.
Shelby’s early childhood in Homer, Louisiana and grew up in Magnolia, Arkansas. She graduated from Columbia High School in Magnolia Arkansas in 1957. She attended Donnelly College in Kansas City, Kansas where she received an Associated Degree in Office Management.
Shelby accepted Christ at an early age. She was baptized in Homer, Louisiana at Liberty Hill Baptist Church.
Shelby united in holy matrimony to Sam Jones Jr. in 1958. To this union 5 children were born, Larry Jones, Tammie Jones Gentry, Michael Jones, Keith Jones, and Telicia Jones White.
Shelby began work for Donnelly College as a Secretary where she worked for 28 years. She was promoted from Secretary to Dean; and retired in 2002. She was actively involved in church. She was a church clerk, choir member, and deaconess.
Shelby married the late Reverend Niles Seawood in 1977 in Kansas City, Kansas. They were happily married for 23 years. Shelby as a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Shelby was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Watts and Anna Ollie Johnson; and her husband Rev. Niles Seawood.
Shelby is survived by her brothers, Dr. Clinton (Shirley) Johnson; and Tommy Johnson; sister, Glenda (Weldon) Hildreth; sons, Larry (Doris) Jones of Kansas City, Missouri; Michael Jones of Kansas City; and Keith (Angela) Jones of Kansas City, Kansas; daughters, Tammy (Rodney) Gentry of Lee Summit, Missouri; and Telicia White of Kansas City, Kansas; her 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; her nieces; and nephews; a host of other relatives; and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations
be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
