Life’s Reflection
On July 29, 1970, Sedra Denise (Moore) Battles Born and raised in Kansas City Kansas to Mother, Nona Mae Moore (Wyandotte County Native) and Nathaniel Lars.
During her adolescent years she built many friendships at Frank Rushton Elementary and Rosedale Middle School. At just fifteen years old, Sedra was devastatingly diagnosed with bone cancer, but later became a cancer survivor. She was always a fighter!
Sedra graduated from JC Harmon alongside her lifelong best-friend, Vivian Conway in 1988. She received a dual certificate through Kansas Area Technical school for Cosmetology. Later on in the year 1992, she furthered her education at Advanced Hair Academy to receive her license as a Nail Technician.
June 27, 1992, Sedra united in marriage to Tyrone Battles Jr. Together they built a family on the foundation of unconditional love. Sedra was fierce and loved her family and friends loudly and proudly with a true Leo spirit. She wore her trademark lioness tattoo with all the grace and loyalty it implies.
Sedra dedicated her life to serving her local community doing natural hair, with a specialty for Locs and nails. She achieved her life-long dream of running Urban Oasis Salon and Studio in Shawnee Kansas for five successful years!
Outside of work and running her business, Sedra enjoyed tinkering with her plants in her garden, crocheting items for her loved ones, and learning her history to “Better Know ThySELF!” She made an impact on the community alongside her cousin Maria Kline, who was a community activist putting on the “Know ThySelf” festivals for our youth at Big Eleven Lake.
Sedra departed this life on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 with the love of her family surrounding her.
