Life’s Reflections of Sarah Jean Bailey
Sarah Jean Bailey, 91 years young, passed away on the 25th of April 2020 at Ignite Medical Resort in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born on October 23,1928 in Kansas City, Kansas to Edgar and Georgia (Shain) Twine.
Sarah grew up in Kansas City, Kansas. She attended Sumner High School in Kansas City, Kansas. After high school she began work for Wolferman’s Restaurant as a waitress as well as at the Dime Store. She also worked as a saleswoman at Kline’s Department Store. She eventually started her own home childcare where the name Mama Jean was born. She was involved in The Philomel Choral Group that her sister- in-law, Lula started. They sang at various places throughout Kansas. She sang at Eighth Street Baptist Church in the Gospel and Young Adult Choirs. She was a member of Eighth Street Baptist Church for over 50 years.
Sarah married LeRoy Evans Holmes shortly after leaving high school in Kansas City, Kansas. They produced three children through that union. Sarah enjoyed singing, maintaining meaning friendships and doing hair. When she put Shirley Temple curls in girls hair, they did not come out! She also received state licensure to operate a home daycare.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Georgia Twine; her siblings, Evelyn Twine Linares; Lucille Twine Massingale and Nellie Ann Twine James; her first husband, LeRoy Holmes and second husband Robert Bailey.
Sarah is survived by her sons and daughter, Judith; Michael (Amelia) and Lamont all of Kansas City, Kansas; one brother-in-law, Rudolph Massingale; her grandchildren, Reneé; Raymond; Pharlandez; LaRoyce; Taijuana; Rhonda and LaToya; her great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
