Life’s Reflection
Sandra Elizabeth West, 73, passed away on November 9, 2021, at home in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born on July 5, 1948, in Flint, Michigan to Aaron and Dessie Hughes.
Sandra grew up in Oakland, California. She graduated from Oakland Tech High in 1965. She married John West in Oakland, California in 1965. To this union two sons were born. She began working at the Alameda Naval Air Station as a data card puncher where she worked for 17 years. She and her husband relocated to Kansas City, Kansas. She was a member of the US Marine Corp and US Government for 20 years. She also worked for Marine Finance Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She was head of staff at Bryant School and was a nutrition service worker for Arrowhead Middle School.
Sandra enjoyed cooking, gardening, decorating and football. She did not allow anyone in her kitchen. She loved her wine and her Raiders. She loved baking cakes. She was faithful member of Forest Grove Baptist Church, where she was always involved in church activities and enjoyed participating in the Harvesters Food Drives.
Sandra was nurturing, kind-hearted, genuine, family oriented, loving, angelic, amusing, and last but not least sophisticated.
Sandra was preceded in by her husband who she was happily married to for over 50 years; her son, Desmond West; and brother, Don Hughes.
Sandra leaves to cherish her precious memories, her son, Dion West; sister, Dolores; brother, Ronald Hughes; grandchildren, Dominique Hall; Mandisa Edwards; Dawari West; Aza West; Devdan West; Kayden West; great grandchildren, Dasha West; Javaun Simmons; Mikaia Simmons; and Xayden West; nieces; and nephews; a host of other relatives and friends.
