Life's Reflection

~ Ruth Lorene Stewart Milan-Carter ~

Ruth was born on January 26, 1934 in Kansas City, Kansas.  Her earthly journey ended on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Riverbend Post Acute Rehabilitation. She was the eighth child born to the union of William Lawrence Stewart and Lorene Irene Gavin-Stewart.  Ruth grew up in Kansas City, Kansas where she attended Douglass Elementary School, Northeast Junior High School, and Sumner High School (Class of 1952).

Ruth is preceded in death by her mother and father (William and Lorene Stewart); three brothers (Symuel Stewart, William Stewart and Kadovert L. Stewart); (four sisters: Josephine L. Stewart-Calhoun, Daisy Stewart-Ward, Willa L. Stewart-Jackson, Shirley J. Stewart-Reynolds).

Ruth and Robert L. Milan, Sr. were united in marriage in 1952 and to that union one son was born, Robert L. Milan, Jr.  Later, that marriage was dissolved.  In 1965 she again united in marriage to Albert Carter and to that union one son was born, Andre’ Orlando Carter.

Ruth dedicated her spiritual life to Christ at Mason Memorial United Methodist Church, Kansas City, KS at an early age where she participated in the Young Adult Fellowship Choir and served on the Adult Usher Board.  She later became a member of Greater Faith Baptist Church, Kansas City, KS where she was baptized by her son, Rev. Robert L. Milan, Jr.  She sang in the Sanctuary. She faithfully attended church until her illness prevented her from attending.

Ruth loved to sing, and she briefly attended the Conservatory of Music in Kansas City, Missouri.  Her favorite song she liked to sing was “Walk Around Heaven” and she sang that at many funerals. Her hobbies included bowling with the Mr. & Mrs. Magoo and the Jubilees bowling teams.  She also loved to travel, listen to gospel songs, dance, watch movies and sports.  She supported her sons in their school and sport activities.

Ruth was employed by several employers: Critteron Cleaners, Goldsmith Market as a Clerk, Dr. Naufel Dental Office, as a dental assistant and 20+ years at Safeway Foods as a Cashier/Checker until she retired.

Ruth leaves to celebrate her life: two sons: Rev. Robert L. Milan, Jr. (Minnie), Kansas City, KS; Andre’ Orlando Carter, Kansas City, MO; grandchildren:  Robert Aaron Milan, Brittany L. Milan, D’ont’e R. Carter (Laquita); Dana D. Washington (Alonzo); Michael Mitchell;  17 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
