Life’s Reflections
Rose Jean Oliver was born on February 12, 1925 to Ernest and Nina Hayden in Edwardsville, Kansas. At the time it was called Groves Center. She transitioned peacefully on September 30, 2020. Rose Jean was one of 7 siblings, 3 brothers, Wilber Hayden, Ernest Hayden Jr., and Ronald Hayden: 3 sisters, Catherine White, Yvette Scott, and Mary Kimbrough. All of her brothers, and 2 sisters, Catherine and Yvette proceeded her in death. Her sister, Mary Kimbrough remained by her side.
Rose Jean went to Edwardsville School and later married James F. Oliver and from that union two children were born Janice Banks and Jeannette Newton. Her daughter Janice proceeded her in death. Rose Jean worked as a nanny for Dr. John Litton and later was a care giver for her father Ernest Sr. and her aunts Edith, Irene, and her brother Ernest Jr. She then worked as a C.N.A. at Parkway Care Home in Edwardsville, Kansas until retirement.
Rose was a very caring person also known as Moma Jean, Aunt Jean and Moma. She took pride in her cooking skills, her pies, cobblers, cakes, and many other savory dishes. Her baking skills were known and sought out by many. Rose aka Moma Jean was a very stylish dresser known for her hats, purses, shoes, and dress attire. She dressed and looked like a model. Moma Jean was still cutting grass and weed eating in her late 80’s and lived on her own still preparing Thanksgiving dinner and her delicious cobblers until she was 93 years old. If anyone ever needed a place to stay or needed a good home cooked meal, her door was always open she never turned anyone away.
