Robert Williams Obituary

Life’s Reflections

Robert Louis Williams was born in McGehee, Arkansas on September 30, 1946.  He was the oldest son born to Dorothy and Johnie Williams, Jr. who preceded him in death.

Robert had the opportunity to see the world due to his father’s service in the military.  He moved from Tillar, Arkansas as a small child with his parents to New Orleans, Louisiana where he began elementary school at St. Paul’s Catholic School.  He later went to St. Raymond’s Catholic School.  In 1954, his father was transferred from Camp LeRoy Johnson in New Orleans to Boeblingen, Germany.  Robert attended school in Germany until his father was transferred back to the states in 1957.  The family returned to New Orleans and moved to Kansas City, Kansas in 1961.  Robert completed his junior and senior years of high school in Kansas.  He graduated from Sumner High School in 1965.

Upon completion of high school, Robert joined the United States Army where he completed two years of service.  When he returned from his service, he worked at DeWitt Mechanics Shop where he mastered his skills as a mechanic.  Robert later became the proprietor of his own auto mechanic shop.  He would repair or rebuild any type or model of car that entered his shop.  His many customers became his friends for life.  While working as an independent master mechanic, Robert was a loyal employee at General Motors.  Here, he held various positions and received several accolades prior to retiring after 44 years of service.  Robert was a child of God.  He shared his joy and hope with others.

Robert was baptized at an early age.  Robert helped his mother raise three of his younger siblings.  He enjoyed quiet time at home, hunting, fishing, bowling, singing, electronics, science fiction, cooking, and most of all being around his family and friends.  Robert had a quiet demeanor.  He did not like confusion and spoke highly of everyone.  He was gentle yet strong.  He had the biggest heart and constantly showed love for his family and friends.  He was a member of the UAW and Sumner Alumni Association.  Robert’s sense of humor and silent strength will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

On Friday July 19, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., God in his infinite wisdom, called him home from suffering pain to eternal rest.

He leaves to mourn his siblings:  Gracie W. Melson of New Orleans, Louisiana; Freddie Grayson of Kansas City, Kansas; Adrienne W. Patterson (Geoffrey) of Shawnee, Kansas; Andrenell W. Johnson of Grandview, Missouri; Stevie L. Williams (LaVonne) of Bonner Springs, Kansas and Ronald, Kim and Bryan Williams of New Orleans, Louisiana; a special brother, Myron Moore (Kelli) of Kansas City, Missouri; a son; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts, cousins, uncle and best friend, other relatives and friends.
