Rev. Vernon V. DeBose, Jr. was born May 31, 1939, in Argentine, KS to the union of Vernon V. DeBose, Sr. and Zeola DeBose. He was one of six siblings, David Haskin, George DeBose, and three who preceded him to death, Zenovia Green, Howard Haskin, and Willie Haskin.
He received his education in the Public Schools of Kansas City, KS. Vernon graduated from Argentine High School and attended Kansas City, Kansas Junior College, earning an Associate of Arts Degree. Then attending William Jewel College earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology and Religion. Also, he attended Central Baptist Theological Seminary as well as the University of Kansas earning a Master of Social Work Degree. He was enlisted in the United States Air Force. Vernon graduated from Training School in Amarillo, Texas in October 1957, he served in Korea from November 1957 to December 1958. He was Honorably discharged in Plattsburg, New York in May 1961.
Vernon began his employment with the Kansas State Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services in November 1985, then moved to Mattie Rhodes Counseling and Art Center. But all the while his most important employment was doing the work of the Lord. First at, Mt Olive Missionary Baptist Church from 1975-1986 then moved to New Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in 1986 until his homegoing.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Onie Jean DeBose; Two Sons, Vernon V. Debose III (Trey) of Shawnee, KS and Douglas DeBose, Sr. of Shawnee, KS; Two grandchildren, Douglas DeBose II, of Gunnison, CO, Reanne Elizabeth DeBose of Shawnee, KS; his two brothers David Haskin, Sr. (Mary) of Kansas City, MO; George DeBose (Jane) of Kansas City, Kansas. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
