Retha Holland was born on July 3, 1931, in the small town of Ringgold, Louisiana, to Issac, and Charlotte Mitchell. She was the only girl to this union, among three brothers. (Honey as she was well known to friends and family) passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on March 3, 2022. Retha was married to Jesse Holland, he preceded her in death.
Retha spent her childhood in Ringgold, Louisiana. She accepted Christ at an early age, at Springhill C.M.E. Church in Ringgold, Louisiana. Retha later moved to California, and then later to Kansas City to join her older brothers. When Retha relocated to Kansas she became a member of Bethel Baptist of Kansas City, Kansas. The family later relocated to the Argentine area and became members of Second Metropolitan Baptist Church. We all know Retha didn’t drive so she became a member of Bible Temple with her daughter and later joined Grace Temple where she was the mother of the church under the leadership of her eldest son Pastor Bill Mitchell and was active until her death.
Retha was employed at the Federal Building downtown in Kansas City, Missouri. Retha loved shopping and spending time with her children and grandchildren. If you have had the honor of knowing Retha, you knew she was loved so dearly by her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her three brothers, Levell; Evan; and Issac; her husband, Jesse Holland; one son, Dale Mitchell; and one great grandson, Jordan Lee Taylor Jr.
Those Remaining to cherish her memories are her children, Shirley Douglass; Bill Mitchell (Stella); Kathy Mitchell; Jacqueline Davis (Cosby); Lisa Pittman; Angela Warren; and Clay Pittman. Retha was honored to be the grandmother to 19 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and 4 great great-grandchildren. She also leaves a special son, Steve Warren; a host of nieces; nephews; relatives; and friends.
