Rembert Young, Sr. Obituary

After a brief illness, Rembert G. Young, Sr., age 89, peacefully left this earth to be with our Heavenly Father Thursday, June 1, 2023, in Blue Springs, Missouri.

Rembert Gordon Young, Sr., born January 27, 1934 in Kansas City Kansas, was the fourth of six children born to the late Reverend Melvin J. and Alice Odessa Young. Both parents and two brothers, Blaine Edwin and Melvin Jr. preceded him in death.

Rembert attended the public schools in Kansas City, Kansas graduating from Sumner high school in 1952. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State teachers College in Pittsburgh Kansas where he also became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. Rembert also took graduate courses from other schools and universities.

He was a lifelong member of young memorial Church of God in Christ in Kansas City, Kansas that was founded by his grandfather, David J. Young in 1916. The original church was destroyed by a fire in 1918. Services continued under a nearby shade tree, and later in the homes of church members until a new structure was built. In 1960, a new church was constructed at 2401 N. 9th street by his father, M.J Young, the sanctuary holding this service today.

Rembert worked for the family printing company, D. J. Young Printing Company for 25 years and then retired from the Kansas City, Missouri School District in 1994.

His first marriage was dissolved, and he is the father of two children, Rembert G. Young Jr. (Rene'); and Tamara M. Blackman. He is the grandfather of Valarie Titus (Michael); Brittany Blackman; Briana Blackman and Vernell Blackman (Jessica); great grandfather of Victoria Titus; Alexa Titus; and Vincent Blackman.

Rembert married Ruth Crabtree in 1992 and they shared many adventures. Traveling was one of their favorite pastimes.

Rembert leaves to cherish his memory his wife Ruth, his sister Shirley McGlothen, brother Adrian Young, Sr. (Aleta); sister Jacqueline Walker (Frank); his children, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

“We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5: 8
