Raymond I. Smith, Jr. Sunrise August 02, 1962 Sunset August 16, 2025 Raymond Ignatius Smith, Jr. was born in Washington, DC on August 02, 1962 to the late Raymond I. Smith, Sr and Geraldine Smith. He was 63 at the time of his passing on August 16, 2025. He was the second eldest of 3 children. Ray attended Bunker Hill Elementary, Brookland Middle and St. Anthony's High School in _Washington, DC. Although Ray never married, he was a devoted uncle to his nieces and nephews. After high school graduation, Ray entered the federal government as a civilian employee for Health and Human Services. He later moved to Housing and Urban Development, working in the mailroom. He worked his way up to the accounting department and retired in 2012 after almost 34 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends, camping at Indian Acres, music, video games, dancing, playing cards, and cruising. He was an avid collector of music and started Good Vibes podcast and was known as the "Human Juke Box". Ray would often play music from the time he got up until he went to bed. Although he lived in Washington DC and attended several Redskins (now Commanders) games, he was passionate about the Pittsburgh Steelers. On September 30, 2023, he decided to move to Kansas City, Kansas to live with his sister. He is preceded in death by his parents: Raymond I. Smith. Sr and Geraldine Smith; survived by sister: Vinita S. Cannady, Kansas City, Kansas; brother: Darryl M. Smith, Washington, D.C; nephews: Stephen P. Cannady, Washington, DC; Shaun A. Cannady (Sopha), Kansas City, MO, Darryl Smith Jr., Atlanta, GA; great nephews: Stephen P. Cannady, Jr., Washington, DC, Shaun Cannady Jr, Kansas City, KS and Sander Cannady, Kansas City MO.; niece Adrianne Smith, Atlanta, GA; great nieces Stephanie, Laurel, MD, Hailey, Harlem and Serenity, Atlanta GA and a host of cousins from the Diggs, Adams, Poulson families, close neighbors and friends.
