Rosalee Arlene Long (Venerable), affectionately known as Arlene, was born on February 8, 1934 to Roy and Pearl Venerable (Jackson) in Edwardsville, Kansas. She was the fifth of six children, all of whom preceded her in death. Arlene grew up in Edwardsville, Kansas and graduated from Bonner High School in Bonner Springs, Kansas in 1952. After graduating, Arlene went right into the workforce, working in the local garment district for many years as well as working at Sumner High School until she retired as a lunchroom cashier. Arlene was a dedicated, hard worker who never failed to bring a smile to the faces of her coworkers as well as any students who crossed her path. In 1958, Arlene was joined in holy matrimony to Hiawatha Long of Kansas City, Kansas; where they were happily married for 51 years until his passing in 2009. During their union, they had one son, Keith Long, born on August 30, 1958. He preceded her in death in 2013.
Arlene’s true passion and dedication was in her service to the Lord through her church. She was a devoted member of the 8th Street Baptist Church of Kansas City, Kansas for well over 70 years. Arlene was involved in various ministries throughout the church, including the Mission Department, BTU, she sang in the Women’s Day Choir, served as the Sunday School Secretary and was a regular attendee of Prayer Service. Whenever, whatever and wherever the task, Arlene’s never hesitated to jump into action with a smile on her face and undying humility in her heart and soul.
Rosalee was truly a Child of God and Heaven welcomes her home with open arms.
Rosalee lived a long and blessed life. She leaves behind a host of relatives; From the Long side of the family, Arlene is survived by Beatrice Byrd, Georgia Long, Bernice (Paul) Johnson, Tecumseh Long Jr. and Curtis (Marylin) Long. Arlene was preceded in death by Dionysus, Burnis, Willie Rose Long and Motique Brown.
On the Venerable side, Arlene leaves behind a host of relatives including nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
