RODNEY TYRONE NEWMAN

Rodney Tyrone Newman, age 66 accepted his invitation to heaven on November 24, 2023.

Rodney was born August 15, 1957 in Kansas City, Kansas to Paul and Naomi Washington Newman, who preceded him in death. He was educated in the Kansas City, Kansas Public School District and graduated from Sumner High School in 1975.

Rodney was affectionately known to his family and friends as caring, goodhearted, sharp dresser, and positive with a passion for basketball. He loved his family and more recently spent most of his time and energy with his Grandchildren.  He coached Youth Basketball teams over the years with his Sons and was actively involved with his grandson Ramone’ Jr’s games as well. He took great interest and pride in teaching him many of life’s lessons.  Sports was a big part of their bonding, especially basketball and football and just hanging out together and being there for him.  Rodney was always focused on family as he maintained a close relationship with his Mother in the maintenance of the family business “Newman’s Texas Hamburgers.” He was an avid hunter for years with his Father and his Father’s best friend, John Moore.  Rodney enjoyed joining them on their many hunting trips.

Rodney grew up and lived in Kansas City, Kansas and moved to Olathe, Kansas with his family in 1997.  He rededicated his life to Christ and was baptized May 4, 2014.  He was an active member of Kingdom Builders Christian Church in Arlington, Texas; under the leadership of Pastor and Mrs. Reginald Davis.  Rodney was employed and retired from Lady Baltimore Foods in Kansas City, Kansas. 

Rodney fought valiantly through several medical challenges which ended his life peacefully on Friday, November 24, 2023 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas.

Rodney’s life will be cherished and lovingly remembered by his wife, Sharon Thomas Newman, Olathe, Kansas, three sons; Reginald Newman (Nicole), Dallas Texas, Ramone’ Newman, Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Rashaud Johnson (Esmeralda), Olathe Kansas, three grandchildren, Ramone’ Newman Jr., Raymond Newman and Arielle Johnson, three sisters; Marjorie Owens (Monte), Miami Florida, Paulette Hall (Herbert), Kansas City, Kansas, Linda Murray (LaVert), Kansas City Kansas, one brother; Patrick Newman, Kansas City, Kansas  Special nieces and nephew; Monica Owens Kirk (Rory), Overland Park Kansas, Korri Hall, Kansas City, Kansas, Brea Griffith (Kory), Dallas, Texas, Kayla Hall, Kansas City, Kansas and nephew LeErik Murray (Nichole), Walnut Creek, California and many cousins and other relatives and friends.
