Her Story
Two days prior to Christmas of 1956, the last child belonging to Henry George Harvey Sr. and Julia Myrtle Mae (Mercer) Harvey was born at University of Kansas Medical Center in Rosedale, Kansas, joining the large family of siblings, LuRena; Henry Jr.; Wayne; Frank; Valarie; Linda; Ivan; and Chester. On December 23, 1956, Pamela Dorthea Juline Harvey, our beautiful baby sister.
Her Education
Pamela, being raised in the Argentine Rosedale area (Harvey Hill), was educated in the Kansas City School District, Noble Prentis Elementary School, Argentine Junior High School, Argentine Senior High School, and the first class to graduate from the new high school Harmon High School class of 1974. She was very proud of being on the committee to pick the school’s mascot and the school’s colors. Pam continued her education by attending Kansas City College of Medical and Dental Assistant receiving a Certificate for Dental Assistant, she was valedictorian of the class. Later she decided to return to school to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree, becoming a Registered Nurse, making Psychology her major.
Her Married Life
Pamela married Gregory D. Atkins, her Junior High and Senior High School sweetheart in 1975, when Greg had finished his basic training in the United States Army. The couple moved to Riverside, California, where Greg was stationed for four years. To this union a baby girl Nikeia TaShonna-Nicole (Summer) was born in 1977, after the young family moved back to Kansas City, Kansas and made their home on South 18th Street, a son was born Gregory D. Atkins Jr. in 1982. The family lived there for 30 years, until Greg Sr. untimely death on December 31, 2013, leaving a large void to the family. In 2018, a ray of sunshine came back into Pam’s life, in a Godly Man name Keith Kerr adding hope, love, joy, back into her life. On November 19, 2022, they were married, blending their families together in harmony, peace, understanding, and true love, until her passing on April 8. 2025.
Her Church Life
Pamela was raised in Bethel SDA Church, then attending Community Baptist Church of Rosedale in the neighborhood she was raised in her teenage years. Upon returning from California, she reunited with Bethel. After her marriage to Keith, she followed her husband to New Beginning Church of Jesus Christ, working in all aspects of the Church. She loved being an Usher and working with young people. She started Sisters Helping Sisters, a program teaching young girls how to be young ladies. She also had a Soap and Moisturizer Ministry, teaching the ladies of the church in soapmaking, and moisturizers using all natural ingredients,
Her Work History
While in California Pam worked as a CNA, after returning home and finishing school, she worked in private practice for about two years, before joining UMKC School of Dentistry as a Dental Assistant for fifteen years, leaving a job that she loved and enjoyed, to further her education. She worked at Two Rivers for two years, before going to St. Luke’s Northland Hospital in Smithville, Missouri for ten years, before leaving to be closer to home, then finishing her work career at KVC at Prairies Ridge now University of Kansas Health System on Strawberry Hill for seven years, retiring in 2023.
Her Enjoyment of Life
Pam enjoyed being with her family, cooking, baking, sewing (the girl could make anything), gardening, decorating, floral Arranging, traveling, working in church, listening to jazz, and inspirational music, she documented everything, Pam was a special unique gift of knowledge and love she did it all, she was living her Best Life.
Her Family
Pam was preceded in death by her parents, Henry G. Sr.; and Julia M. Harvey; her brothers, Henry G. Harvey Jr; and Wayne S. Harvey (Dorothy); her sisters, LuRena J. Young (John E. II); and Linda G. King (Horace); her niece, Felicia Harvey; her nephews, Henry G. Harvey III; and John E. Young III; her great nephew, Darron Harvey; her first husband, Gregory D. Atkins Sr.; her in-laws, George D. Sr. and Nealie Bell Atkins; and Carl and Hattie Gilmore; her brothers-in-law, George D. Atkins Jr.; Gerald D. Atkins Sr.; and Michael Kerr; her sisters-in-law, Mary H, Harvey; Sylvia S. Harvey; Lynda Atkins-Harris; and Gabrella Atkins; and other relatives.
Pam leaves behind to cherish her dignity, smile, and unconditional love, her husband, Keith Kerr Sr.; her children, Nikeia “Summer” Turner-Washington (Otis); Greg Jr. “Joba”, which blessed her with six biological grandchildren and three beautiful additional grandchildren. A.E. Yashiwa Turner; and Nealie’ J. Turner gifts from Summer; Jada M. Atkins; Jazmin G. Atkins; Gregory D. Atkins III; Georgia D. Atkins; Terriona Jenkins; Olivia Smith; and Serenity Mayberry all gifts from Joba; bonus daughters, Denita Haynes; and Malory Keithley; love-children, Andre Kerr; Keith Kerr Jr, Aryanna Kerr; Candace Franklin; and Crystal Franklin; love-grandchildren, Amelia; Aysha; Kevaughn; Anthony; and Christopher Thomas; siblings, Frank C. Harvey Sr.; Valarie E. Harvey-Fennell (Samuel); Rev. Ivan L. Harvey Sr; (Cassandra); and Chester L. Harvey (Denise); brother-in-law, Geri “Hector” Atkins; sisters-in-law, Lola J. Harvey; Gwen Ridgnal; Greta Scroggins (Tony); Gisele Atkins; best friends, Charmin Johnson; and Josie Wells; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other family member; and friends.
