PIUS FRYE Obituary

Pius grew up In the Rosedale Community of Kansas City, Kansas. He attended schools in USD 500. He graduated in 1980 from JC Harmon High School where he excelled in Academics & Sports.  He briefly attended Penn Valley  Community College.  Instead of furthering his education he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard as a Reservist:  Seaman Apprentice (SA).  He was stationed in several places including:  St. Louis, MO, Fort Leavenworth, KS, Alameda, CA, and Kansas City, MO (Brush Creek).  He served from July 10, 1981 until July 9, 1986.  He was honorably discharged.

During his lifetime he worked for several companies including Herf Jones which produced yearbooks; Children’s Mercy Hospital; St. Luke’s Hospital house keeping, Ceva Biomune Company-Lab Technician Ii and Vets Securing America, Inc. -Security Services until his health began to fail.

Pius began dating Kim C. Houston and after a couple of years they married on May 13, 2000.   They became a blended family with his children:  Christina, Kenneth and Niesha.  To their union were born Cameron, Parris and Kenadi.   They recently celebrated 24 years of marriage.  Kim states, “ I fell in love with his personality and sense of humor.  It was never a dull moment with Mr. Frye!”

Pius was a avid football fan. His favorite college team is Ohio State and professionally, the Philadelphia Eagles.  There was always a rivalry during Football season with his brothers or his brothers-in-law and him, especially since Some of them are Kansas City Chiefs Fans.  He had a passion for music and he worked as a D.J. for over 35 years in the Kansas City area. Pius would often quote " I

was Big in Europe !!" to the kids. Dancing his  2-Step was unique. His talents were numerous: drawing, worked on bicycles and cars.  He was the founder of the Next Payday Car Club.

Pius liked to barter at the Swap Meet for the thrill of finding items for his price (cheaper) than the asking price.  Other favorite venues were the City Market, 63rd Street, and the Boulevard.     He mastered the art of bartering. When the family traveled he always had to stop at any Wal-Mart, locally looking for the Clearance Specials or ZuZu’s ZuZu’s and Wham’s Wham’s, his term for sweets and snacks.  Pius declared, He had fun and enjoyed Life!

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife,, Kim; daughters, Christina, Niesha, Parris and Kenadi Frye; sons:  Kenneth (Corine) Frye Watson and Cameron Houston; grandchildren:  Kenneth, Jr., Keith and Kacie; sisters Mary (Tootie), Dona Faye and Denise; brothers: Larry (Janice), Anthony, Jack (Roxanne), great aunt:  Enita Alexander, uncles:  Lee Frye, Sr. , Verton (Debra) Ivory and Alan J.
