OTIS EUGENE “PUDDIN” BARRON, SR.

     Otis Eugene Barron, Sr., affectionately known as “Puddin,” was born in Kansas City, Kansas to Otis E. and Anna Lee Evans Barron on November 13, 1930.  He had three siblings, Ernest R. Dodd, Gerald F. Williams, and Annola V. Williams Richardson.  He married Marie Johnson in the mid-fifties and to that union were born two children, Otis, Jr., and Carmen.   He married Mary Jo (Boyce) Reddick in 1981 and they enjoyed thirty-seven years prior to her passing in 2018.  Together their enjoyed a blended family which consisted of his daughter, Michelle Greer, Otis, Jr., Carmen, and Damon Reddick.  Otis was preceded in death by his parents, both brothers, and a nephew, Kevin Williams.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo and his grandson, Curtis Williams. 

     Otis was a product of the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools, where he attended Northeast Junior High School and Sumner High School.  He retired from the Ford Claycomo Assembly Plant where he worked on the assembly line and in the Paint Shop. 

     Puddin’ loved his family, and he enjoyed just hanging out with his sister, Annola, whom he affectionately called “Sister” and other family.  He was especially close to his cousin, Clifford, and he would not miss the annual family reunion.  He enjoyed getting the updates on all the family members.  He enjoyed the fun, food, the music, and bid whist games.  He also remained friends with his former brothers-in-law, Steve and Melvin Johnson, and Roy Boyd until their deaths.   

     Otis was a child of the “north end,” Fifth Street in Kansas City, Kansas.  He had the reputation for being a “top notch” pool player, and he was always up to the challenge.  He treasured many close friends such as childhood next-door neighbor, Kenneth Poole.  Others included Pete Barge, Bob McIntosh, and Adrian Thibodo, and, for many years this close-knit group traveled to Minnesota to fish or to Iowa for the annual hunting trip.  During their many years of marriage, Puddin’ and Mary Jo traveled the world—he shared memories of their trip to Greece, and he especially enjoyed their annual trips to Barbados. Otis “Puddin” Barron lived a full and blessed life, and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

     Otis is survived by his son Otis Barron Jr., his stepson Damon Reddick, two daughters Carmen Benson and Michelle Greer, all of Kansas City; Ten grandchildren – Kataia Barron, Otis Warren, Keylon Warren, Porsha Parker, Cameron Williams, Jamela Williams, Keeyon Benson, Kaia Benson, Keith Benson, and Chris Benson, all of Kansas City.  One nephew Galen Williams of Broomfield, Co; One niece Lenita A. Richardson of Lawrence, KS; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
