Life Reflections

Muhammad Ibrahim Safir, was born Gary L. Mahan in Kansas City, Kansas on September 15, 1954 to Charles Mahan and Bonnie Goodloe.  Mr. Safir graduated from Sumner High School in 1972 where he was active in multiple extra-curricular activities including athletics and music. He attended Kansas University on a ROTC Scholarship. In 1973, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving our country for many dedicated years.  He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (2x awarded) Army Parachute Badge, M-16 Rifle Marksman, and the Army Commendation Medal. Mr. Safir was multi-lingual - English, French, German, and Arabic. As a skilled carpenter, Mr. Safir  maintained residential and commercial general contracts until his health declined.

Mr. Safir was united in marriage to his loving wife and friend Felicia Denise Smith on December 18, 1980.  To this union three children were born.  He was a caring and loving husband, father, and grandfather to the family.

He is cherished in the memories of his family:  Preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Goodloe Cabe and father, Charles Mahan. Survived by a list of relatives: wife Felicia D. Safir; children: Aisha Akila Safir (husband: William Hack), Amber Jamila Safir, and Omar Jamil Safir (wife: Tijera Safir); grandchildren:  Delsa Robinson and Sayuri Hack; Siblings:  Kevin Mahan (child: Stephan Hicks), Bryan Mahan, Gregory Mahan (children: Greg Howard (deceased), Amanda Cabe, Jessica Cabe, Alarice Renee Hanna, Tina Cabe, and Shaneka Cabe) Sherri Cabe Batts (child: Julian Batts), Lee Ann Cabe (child:  Derrick Robinson, Jr.)  Bonnie Cabe Simmons (children:  Jazmine Simmons (deceased), Jaden Simmons, Jordan Simmons (child: Jazmine Prelow).
