Morris Sanford Coles, Jr.
Morris Sanford Coles, Jr was born on January 12, 1940, to Morris Sr. and Margaret Coles in Richmond, Virginia. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Saint Paul’s Baptist Church in Richmond. He was a graduate of the class of 1958 from Maggie Walker High School in Richmond. He was drafted into the Army in 1963 where he obtained the rank of SP4 combat medic. Morris was hired by Ford Motor Company where he worked for 33 1/3 years. He worked in New Jersey for 17 years, then transferred to Kansas City for 16 1/3 years where he was elected Union Stewart at both plants.
Morris married Helen in 1985. He later joined Greater Jerusalem Church where he worked in the finance room and sung in the male chorus. Morris and Helen enjoyed traveling and repairing old homes.
Morris was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret, and Morris Sr.; his wife of 36 years, Helena; his daughter, Dana Coles; two sisters, LaVerne Lucas; and Margaret Garcia; and one brother, Lawrence Coles, Sr…
He leaves to cherish his memory his sister, Janet Coles-James of South Carolina; two daughters, Pamela McKnight of Kansas City, Kansas; and Shawn Barnes (Lateef) of Rahway, New Jersey; one son, Sanford Rhodes (Jennifer) of Augusta, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Morris Sipple; Rochelle Bowser; Gregory Bowser; Mia Rhodes; Jihad Rhodes; Xavier Rhodes; Shayla Barnes; and Jalen Barnes; sixteen great-grandchildren, two sister in-laws, Rita Hamilton; and Gwen Sampson (Rupert); one brother-in-law, Rev. Norman Copeland; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. A special thanks to devoted friends and neighbors, Suzette, and Roscoe Therman.
