On October 25, 1971, Lt. Micheal Robert McConnell was born on his mother’s, Gayle M. (Abernathy) McConnell, birthday. His natural father was Morland Bouyer of Bessemer, Alabama, but Lonnie Keith McConnell, Jr. would become his father for life. To Lonnie and Gayle’s union were born brothers Lonnie Keith McConnell, III, and Galen Marcellus McConnell. Later, godson, Martez D. A. Young was added.
Micheal’s Faith: Micheal professed his faith in Christ as a late teenager. He loved Mt. Carmel COGIC, where he was also baptized. He had great admiration for the late Bishop Ervin Sims, Jr. While at Mt. Carmel, he served in various youth auxiliaries and the sound room ministry. Micheal loved to share his faith with a youth peer group at Sumner Academy. Throughout his life, Micheal served in ministry as licensed clergy sharing his faith and ministering on a local Louisiana radio station.
Education: In Kansas City, KS Micheal attended Chelsa Elementary, West Middle School, and Sumner Academy. When attending Sumner, he was active in sports; played the tuba and bass, and received an International Baccalaureate Certificate in addition to his diploma.
Later he attended Southern University in Shreveport Louisiana earning three associate degrees--Medical Laboratory Technician: General Studies in Mathematics, and General Studies in Chemistry. He became a member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society & USA Today. Afterward, Micheal attended Louisiana State University in Shreveport earning a Bachelor of Science Degree with honors.
Military Career and Accomplishments: After graduating from high school in 1990, Micheal joined the United States Airforce serving six years. In Turkey, his duty was to load aircraft with cluster bombs that were employed against an enemy’s missile site. On one occasion he prevented an unarmed release when he discovered a disconnected lanyard on a live MK-84 bomb on the base he was serving. Micheal left the Airforce, then enlisted in the Navy where he served from 1996 to 2013, attaining Lieutenant Status before retirement.
Marriage and Offspring: In 1995 Micheal married Eula Denise Stuart, and became the stepfather of Travis Stuart. To that union were born his beloved Micheal Marcell McConnell and Brookelynn Michelle McConnell. Years later after divorced; he was blessed with another daughter Miya Nicole McConnell.
Employment: Micheal was dedicated to serving in the medical profession. While in Louisiana, he was employed with Ochsner LSU Health/Shreveport, Willis Knighton Health System and Shreveport’s Doctors Hospital. At retirement, Micheal served as a licensed Medical Scientist specializing in Blood Bank, Chemistry and Hematology. Micheal aspired to return to school to become a Physician’s Assistant specializing in trauma in Emergency Room care but was unable due to his health.
Surviving Family and Loved Ones: Micheal leaves to cherish his memories two sons Micheal Marcell McConnell (Shreveport, LA), and Travis Stuart (Baton Rouge, LA), and two daughters, Brookelynn Michelle McConnell, and Miya Nichole McConnell (Shreveport, LA). His parents, Lonnie K. (Gayle) McConnell, Jr., brothers, Lonnie K. McConnell, III, Galen McConnell, and Martez (LaTina) Young of Kansas City; Christopher Bouyer (Birmingham, AL) and Darryl (Shirley) Bouyer (Bessemer, AL). His fiancé, Teresa Randolph (Edwardsville, KS), and Mariah, Mason, Mylee, and Malaina Parks. A host of special aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
