Michael Otis McReynolds, 79, passed away on May 27th at his home in Overland Park, Ks. He was born on October 5th, 1943 in Kansas City, Kansas to Andrew and Margaret (Brown) McReynolds. Michael grew up in Kansas City, Ks. He graduated from Sumner High School in 1961. After high school, Michael was drafted into the Army where he served a two-year tour in Vietnam.
Michael married Sharon Perkins on February 20th, 1965 at Eighth Street Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas. They were married for 58 years. They had two children, Damon and Danielle. Michael deeply cared about his family. It was his number one priority. He never missed any of the events in which his children participated.
Michael worked for Westvaco for 30 years before retiring. He was an active bowler until his health prevented him from participating in the activity. Considered a quiet man, Michael had a gift for making life-long friends and endearing himself to his neighbors.
He is preceded in death by both of his parents and two sisters (Marilyn and Carmen McReynolds).
His memories will be forever cherished by his devoted wife, Sharon McReynolds; beloved son, Damon; daughter, Danielle (Jim) McReynolds-Dell of Oakland, CA; his grandchildren: Lilian, Abigail, and Natalie Dell; brother, Terry (Bernice); sister, Andrea; a mother-in-law, Charlene Perkins; a brother-in-law, D’Wayne Perkins; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A visitation will be held on June 6th from 9:00-11:00 am at Thatcher’s Funeral Home located at 1520 North 5th Street in Kansas City, Kansas. The religious service will follow the visitation. Michael will be buried at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
