Melvin Richard Robinson was born on September 18, 1941, the eighth child of Everett and Hortense (Dimery) Robinson. Melvin grew up in Rosedale, Kansas and attended Attucks Elementary School and Rosedale High School.
In 1957, Melvin left home and joined his sisters in California for a few years. He returned to Kansas City, and in 1960 he had his first son, Melvyn. He began his career as a truck driver and drove for several years before being allowed to join the local Teamsters Union 41, which previously did not allow black members. He retired from trucking in 1995 after more than 30 years. Melvin was retired as long as he was a holder of the Teamsters Union card.
In 1985, Melvin married Michelle Hayes and blended their families. To their union two children were born. On August 31, 2025, they celebrated their 40th Anniversary. Melvin gave his life to Christ in 1992 and was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He enjoyed long drives and could drive anything.
He loved watching the Kansas City Chiefs, the Royals, and the Big 12. He spent his days riding his bike, jogging, playing dominoes and horseshoes, and talking basketball, cause "Whatchu you know about a hook shot?" He loved cutting his grass just right, going to all the casinos and loving on his family.
He departed this life peacefully, in his sleep at home on January 13, 2026 at the age of 84.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Hortense Robinson; and his siblings, Everett Robinson Ill, Earl Robinson, Betty Bowden, Bobby Robinson, Peggy Walker, and Elizabeth Cunningham.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Michelle; His children, Melvyn Robinson Jr, Nicole Tauheed (Adiel), Mia Robinson, Matthew Robinson, his daughter-in-love Rochelle Robinson, his grandchildren: Renata Robinson, Ricardo Robinson (Suzanne), Joshua Harrison, and Leilani Tauheed; his great-grandson, Preston Robinson; His sister, Marcella "Baby Wee" Moore; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends, especially "The FOTC"s (Fellas on the Corner) and the Rosedalians who loved him.
Melvin understood the value of a good story, a good joke, good music, a job well done and a good cuss word. He was our favorite uncle, person, and Papa. We loved him dearly and he will truly be missed.
