Maurice Bass, Sr Obituary

Maurice Bass Sr. was Born December 24, 1952, in Kansas City, KS to Marvin Bass Sr., and Claudece (Wilson) Bass. He passed away on January 28th, 2025, at NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City, Missouri. Maurice was preceded in death by his parents Father Marvin Bass, Sr., and Mother Claudece (Wilson) Bass, his twin brother Aurice Bass, and brother Marvin Bass, Jr.

Maurice grew up in Kansas City, Kansas attending Hawthorne Elementary School, Northwest Middle School, and Wyandotte High School graduating in 1970. After graduation Maurice continued his education by attending Kansas City Kansas Community College and later transferring to Emporia State University. There he became a member of the Kapa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. During his time at Emporia State is where he met the love of his life Herranda (Ellsberry) Bass. They Married in 1979 at Salem Baptist Church and were married for over 45 years. During their marriage three sons were born, Maruice Jr, Aaron, and Bryan.

Maurice attended the 8th Street Baptist Church along with his parents and siblings for many years. Once married, he moved his membership to the Salem Missionary Baptist Church. At Salem, Maurice enjoyed being a proud member of the Male Chorus. He also served as a member of the trustee Board.

Maurice Loved photography and always carried his camera wherever he went to capture those special shots, he also enjoyed biking, listening to his album collection of music, cooking and above all spoiling his grandkids. 


Maurice is survived by his wife Herranda Bass, his 3 sons Maurice Bass, Jr. (LaToya), Aaron Bass, and Bryan Bass and daughter Nikki Leiba who lives in Florida; Brother Marcus Bass of Kansas City, KS;  Grandchildren Maurice (RJ) Bass III, Gabrielle (Gabby) Bass, Charlotte (Charlie) Bass; God Daughter Shelah Ellsberry; Special Cousin Gregg Carr(Lisa); Sisters in Love Deborah Ellsberry, Sheila Ellsberry, and Kim Ellsberry; Brother in Love Luthaniel (Carla) Cole; and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, other relatives and friends.
