Reflections of Life
On March 18, 2022, Gabriel blew his horn, passed out a pair of wings, and called Mason "bka" M.B., Daddy, Pops, Buddy-Buddy and Paw-Paw home.
Mason was born December 22, 1927, in Haskell, Oklahoma, to Berry and Susie Tucker. He attended Haskell Elementary School, graduated from Booker T. Washington HS, and attended Michigan State University. He served in World War II with the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1947 with a Victory Medal.
He began working for the USPS in 1960, retiring in 1985. After his retirement he enjoyed being a school crossing guard for USD #500 KCK School District. His hobbies included gardening, watching, and playing various sports, especially bowling, golfing, tennis, and swimming. His delight and passion were instructing/teaching children.
In 1971 he married a beautiful woman named Evelyn Jackson. He proposed to her because he needed a wife and he wanted a mother for his youngest child, VeNetta. They happily celebrated 50 years of marriage in August 2021 before moving to Memphis, TN in November of 2021 to live with VeNetta.
Mason was a believer in Christ. He was a former member of Pleasant Green MBC and Olivet Institutional BC before he and Evelyn joined the Strangers Rest MBC in 1987. He gave of his time and talent to several ministries within the church; singing in choirs, teaching Sunday School and was highly active in the Deacon Ministry. He loved most being the instructor of new deacons and was honored as Deacon Emeritus in 2015. Mason and Evelyn traveled throughout the United States attending Sunday School Church Congresses, combined with visits to family and friends.
Preceding him in death are his parents, daughters: Michelle “Tina” Tucker, Loyce McCullough, and eight siblings.
He leaves his legacy to his wife, Evelyn J. Tucker, his sister Nathella Williams of Los Angeles, CA, his daughters VeNetta (Troy Oakley) Draper, Josette Tucker, Marita Tucker, his son Carlton (Sylvia) Johnson Sr., his god- daughter Dorothy Reed, and 13 grandchildren: Christopher (Tamisha) Draper, Joshua Draper, Sr., Justin Borders, Catherine McCullough, Lamar McCullough, Teri McCullough, Jamilla (Michael) Hoard, Curtis White, Alexander White, Carlton Johnson, Jr., Sheree Johnson, Coco Johnson Adams, and Cortney Johnson; 18 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, countless nieces, nephews, and a host of godchildren.
