Mother Mae Esther Garlington, 90, passed away on November 15, 2023, at her home in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born on September 3, 1933, to James Salsberry and Mae Willie Everette in Morrilton, Arkansas. For a short period of time, she moved with her mother and brother to Wichita, KS, but then relocated back to Arkansas, and she was raised by her father and stepmother to further her education.
She accepted Christ at an early age at Union Hill Baptist Church and participated in various activities.
As Mae's life journey continued, she met her soulmate Benjamin F. Garlington, Jr. They became as one on August 18, 1956, in Arkansas. In this Union, four children were born. They were happily married for 66 years.
Mae was employed at Continental Can in Lenexa, KS. She was a hard worker, a good trainer, and was also a helping hand. She showed that same love and motivation until she retired June 1, 1996.
Also, while making Kansas City, Kansas her home, she was a faithful member at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Mother Board, Deaconess Board, Mission Circle, Christian Education, and last but not least the Kitchen Committee. We cannot forget her Sweet Potato Pie, Lemon Moraine Pie, Peach Cobbler and Dressing. Her Favorite song was “Down through the years, the Lord’s been good to me.” She will always be remembered for singing this song, and her favorite saying “Good Food, Good Meat, Good Lord, Let’s Eat!” She was always dedicated to the works of God for her church home until her health began to fail!
Mae was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin F. Garlington, Jr., Father James Salsberry, Mother Mae Willie Everette, Stepmother, Luvada Stricklen, and brothers W.T. “Dub” Everette and Nathan Salsberry.
Mae is survived by her two daughters Carolyn Garlington of Kansas City, Kansas; Lisa Bosby (Willie) of Grandview, MO; her two sons, Ray Garlington (Bridgette) of Kansas City, Kansas; Stanley Garlington, Sr. (Lisa) of Shawnee, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends. Anytime you think of Mae, just think of “See you later, when your hair grows straighter.”JOB WELL DONE!!!!
