“Pud”
Lewis Wickliffe Jr. at 80 years of age, departed this earthly life and was called to his heavenly home on May 26, 2018 after a valiant battle with a long illness. His devotion to his family, friends, church family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Lewis Wickliffe Jr. was born on May 22, 1938. He was the only beloved child of Lewis Wickliffe Sr. and Martha Cope Wickliffe who proceeded him in death. They affectionately gave him the nickname, Pud (which means he was their pudding). He was a lifelong resident of Kansas City. Kansas attended Dunbar elementary and Northeast Jr. High Schools. He was a member of the 1957 Sumner High School graduating class. While attending Sumner High School Lewis participated in the sports of track and basketball.
Lewis served in the United States Army and The Kansas National Guard from August 1958 thru August of 1963. Other service and employment include serving as a firefighter with the Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department retiring in 1988, Unified Government Park Services, and USD 500 Public School retiring in 2006. Lewis also served as the church custodian at Fellowship Christian Church until his health no longer permitted him from serving.
As a child, Lewis attended Bethel Baptist Church with his grandmother. Later in life Lewis attended a Fellowship Christian Church retreat at Big Lake, Missouri where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Lewis enjoyed fishing, basketball, football, playing dominoes and yard work. He especially enjoyed serving in the church bus ministry, singing in the male chorus and socializing with family and friends.
Lewis leaves to cherish his loving memories his loving and dedicated spouse of 25 years, Shirley (Sheila) Wickliffe; his children, Lewis Wickliffe, III of Kansas City, Kansas; Lynette Craig (David) of Kansas City, Kansas; Eric Wickliffe (Angie) of Lee Summit, Missouri; his blended children, Robert Roark; and Bridgette Roark-Sample (John) both of Kansas City, Kansas; he leaves Joyce Hannah Wickliffe, former spouse and mother of his surviving children; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, three sister-in-laws and one brother-in law. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
