Life’s Reflection
Leroy Campbell, 88, passed away on August 11, 2021, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Missouri after a long-term illness. He was born on July 12, 1933, in Vanndale, Arkansas to Walter Eugene and Susie Mollie Campbell.
Leroy grew up in Wynne, Arkansas. After high school he joined the United States Air Force in April 1952, where he served for over 21-years, retiring in February 1974 with the rank of Technical Sargent (TSgt). During his career in the service, Leroy traveled the world with tours of duty in Europe, Africa, Asia and within the USA. He received several awards and honors, including “The Air Force Commendation Medal, for Meritorious Service” while stationed in Southeast Asia from 1967-1968. After retiring from the military, Leroy worked at Allied Van Lines and the Lexington Park Nursing Home.
Leroy acquired several nicknames during his lifetime. He was affectionately called “Pee Wee” by his siblings. Later in life, he was fondly called “Big Roy” or “Sarge”. Leroy loved his family and would do anything to help them. He was always calm, cool, and collected. A man of few words, he blessed us with his quiet power; especially when making a stand to keep the peace.
Leroy was preceded in death by both of his parents, one child, Rochelle Campbell who died in infancy; four brothers, Walter Campbell Jr.; Ralph Campbell; Joree Campbell; and James Campbell; two sisters, Dorothy Warren; and Loretta Lumpkin.
He leaves to cherish his memory one brother, Arbery Campbell; and two sisters, Flora DeVasher; and Prince Ann Campbell.
Leroy is survived by five children; two sons-in-law; and two grandsons; who will forever treasure his memory. He was married to Barbara Campbell, and their union was blessed with four children, Reene Campbell Williams of Roswell, GA; Rodney Campbell of Topeka, KS; Rochelle Campbell (deceased); and Sharil (Henry) PARENTE of Gladstone, MO. He later married Beatrice Haynes, who preceded him in death. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Tarah (Seth) Daniels of Lee's Summit, MO; and Maggie Haynes of Lee's Summit, MO; two grandsons, Joseph; and Jackson; along with an expected arrival of a granddaughter in December; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
