Life Reflections

Laura Mae Union-Leveringston 88, passed away on July 17, 2018 at her residence. She was born July 10, 1930 in Fayette Mississippi to Sylvester and Rosetta Hunter Union, Sr.  Laura Mae grew up in Rohwer, Arkansas, she attended school there. She lived in Indianapolis, Indiana from 1951-1967, she later moved to Kansas City, Kansas with her daughters and grandson. Her brothers, Robert Lee and James helped her move to Kansas City. She worked Waids Restaurant as a domestic worker for several year. In 1972 she was employed by KU Medical Center in the sanitation department for 33 years. She also with her sister, Mae Hanna cleaned homes in Johnson county for many years.

She was a member at Rising Star Baptist Church under Pastor J.R. Williamson. Laura married Columbus Leveringston, Sr. in 1946 in Rohwer, Arkansas they were happily married until his death. She enjoyed family, friends, cooking, cowboy movies, checkers and cards. She loved Martin Luther King, Jr; President John F. Kennedy; Robert Kennedy; President Barack Obama; Denzel Washington; Michael Jackson; Usher and Chris Brown they were all her boys.

Laura Mae was preceded in death by her husband Columbus Leveringston, Sr.; parents, Sylvester, Sr. and Rosetta Union; brothers, Sylvester Union, Jr. (Clarasteen); Earl Union; Howard Union (Queen); brothers-In-law, Robert Smith; Daniel Leveringston, Jr. (Mabel); Jewel Woodberry; Cecil Leveringston; sisters, Anne Union; Bertha Union-Woodberry; Yvonne Union- Moore; Lola Lee Union; Mae Hanna Union-Smith, parents-in-law, Daniel and Maggie Leveringston, Sr.; daughter, Queen Esther Leveringston-Bradberry; Sons-In-law, Larry Bradberry; Carl Crockett, Jr.; Ralph Holmes; and LeRoy Carroll; grandsons, Larry Bradberry, Jr.; Brandon Wilson; Daron Lane; granddaughters, Kalisha Price; Merian Jones and Waconia Wade, Jr.

Laura Mae leaves her loving family daughters, Maggie Leveringston-Robinson (Clarence); Bernice Carroll; Columbus “Freda” Leveringston, Jr. (Tommy White), Vickie Leveringston- Lane; Laura E. Leveringston-Crockett; Arlene Wilson-Holmes; Clarasteen Milton; Laronda Leveringston; stepdaughter: Jearline Leveringston; brothers: James Union, Jr. (Gussie); Robert Lee Union (Dean); and Alonzo Union; brothers-in-law, Samuel Moore; Burnell Leveringston (Lucille) and Andrew Leveringston both of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; sisters, Willie Mae Union- Sanders (J. D.); Odessa Union-Murphy (Horace); great-grandson closely loved, Trevon Price;  granddaughters, Briana Ousley; Brittany Leveringston; Deja Hegwood,; and Columbus Leveringston, III; 26 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and a host other relatives and friends.

GOD was HER ALL AND ALL! She once told GOD looking to the skies (while driving to work one day) You made all of this surely, I can stop smoking. From that day on she never smoked again. That was over 40 years ago. “FEAR GOD, BELIEVE HIM, AND ASK HIM TO HELP YOU, NO MATTER WHAT LET MY WORKS I’VE DONE SPEAK FOR ME.” LOVE ALL

GOD was so great, all she ever, needed no matter what.
