Lucy V. Dwight, 92, was born on October 30, 1931, to Samuel Ivory and Evelyn Franks, in Mansfield, Louisiana. She was the youngest of four children.
Lucy was baptized at a young age, at St. John Baptist Church in Mansfield. Lucy attended King Soloman Baptist Church under the Rev. William Thomas. She joined Pleasant Green Baptist Church under the pastorship of Rev. David Gray, and later joined True Victory Baptist Church, and made Oak Ridge Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Ricky Turner, her home, until she became ill.
Lucy attended the Desoto Parish School System in Mansfield, Louisiana, and attended Grambling State University, in Grambling, Louisiana.
In 1956 Lucy was united in marriage to Charles M. Dwight. They remained happily married until his demise on August 20, 2004.
Lucy worked for Kansas University Medical Center for over 40 years, and retired as a Dietetic Technician.
Lucy was an avid reader and a member of The Eleven O’clock Book Club.
Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers, Verton Ivory, and Eugene Ivory, and niece, Beverly Houston.
She is survived by, her loving and devoted sister, Enita Alexander, nephews, Franky Ivory, Jerome Ivory, and John Alexander, niece Tanya Clay, and special first cousin, Verlie “Butch” Dillard, as well as a host of great nieces and nephews, other families, and friends.
