Kathy Louise Johnson, 58, passed away on June 18, 2026, in Kansas City, KS. She was born on July 18, 1967 to James and Milicent Bledsoe Johnson and has lived in Kansas City her whole life. Kathy graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1985 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1989. Early in her professional career after college, Kathy worked at various organizations in the Kansas City area including Medical Communications Software, Inc. (1993 – 1994); Ticketmaster (1994 – 1997); and Visual Applications, Inc. (1997-1998). In 1998, Kathy began working at National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). Between these two organizations, Kathy served 27 years in a variety of roles: Data Capture Analyst, Quality Assurance Tester, Team Lead and Business Analyst.
Kathy was a member of First Baptist Church in her youth and later joined St. James United Methodist Church where she served on the Worship Committee and was the Director of the Acolytes. Throughout her life, Kathy was a passionate advocate of community service and volunteered often for The Good Samaritan Project, Corporate Challenge, AIDS Walk and numerous events sponsored through her employer and church affiliations.
When she wasn’t serving in the community, Kathy was likely reading a good book, crafting, watching a movie, seeing a touring Broadway show, listening to music, or enjoying board games with friends and family. Above all she was a ray of sunshine to every life she touched and will be greatly missed.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, James and Milicent Johnson. She is survived by her siblings: Toni Johnson (Columbus, OH), Keith Johnson (Kansas City, KS) and Lance Davis (San Antonio, TX); nieces: Jamille Jones (Columbus, OH), Sydney Davis (San Antonio, TX); nephews: Cameron Davis & Caleb Davis (San Antonio, TX) and Jebel Jones (Columbus, OH); great-niece: Zulima Jones (Columbus, OH) and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.
