Reflections of June’s Life’s Story
June Lee Newsom was born November 1,1950 in Kansas City, Kansas, to Ozell Brown and Omie (Stanifer) Brown. She was a member of St. Peter CME Church, where she joined as a child. June was educated in the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools and graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1968. Among all the congratulatory graduation cards she must have received, June cherished and kept the graduation card as a keepsake that she received from Rev. E. A. Wadlowe, who was the pastor at that time.
After graduating from high school, June married her high school sweetheart, Robert Wilson. To this union a son was born, Robert Wilson Jr. After a year the marriage was dissolved. June then moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she made her home.
After moving to Minneapolis, she first worked for AT&T. In 1971 she was blessed with a daughter, Sonja. Having a desire to travel June sought employment with Northwest Airlines and became a Flight Attendant. During this time her mother and father took care of Robert and Sonja. June traveled extensively internationally, including Japan, China, Paris and Germany, June was married to William Horne and William Newsom, both ending in divorce. June continued in her career and retired in 2008 after 32 years of service. In her spare time, she loved to read and collected a library of books, including several Bibles of different translations.
In 2023 June moved back to Kansas due to health reasons. She was a strong woman of faith and continued to fight the good fight until the Lord called her home. On September 23, 2025, she took her last flight at 2:50 a.m., designation, heaven. June is healed and is at peace with the Lord.
June’s grandparents, father, Ozell Sr. and two brothers, Ozell Jr. and Charles preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memories, her mother, Omie, her son Robert, daughter Sonja (Raffee), grandchildren Raffee II, Chelsey, Karice, Sharice, Christopher, Lorraine, Jamie, Roberta, Cierra, and Maurice (bonus grandson), two brothers Larry Brown (Cherri), Jeffrey Brown (Rotena); 4 sisters Margaret Pender, Stephanie Gorman, Rose Web, and Veronica Mathes; 12 great grandchildren; one aunt, Barbara Brown; one uncle, Wilson Stanifer; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and one special friend Donald Lemon.
