John William Lewis passed away on Monday February 28, 2022. He was born on February 1, 1935, in Kansas City, Kansas. He was the second child born to William Lewis and Johnnie Mae Dillard Lewis Booker.
John grew up in Kansas City, Kansas. He attended Stowe Elementary School, Northeast Junior high school, and was a 1953 graduate of Sumner High School. After graduation, he attended the University of Kansas where he received his B.A. degree in Drama. Also, while attending college, he was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
After graduating from college, he went to the Military. He was in the U.S. Army and served in Okinawa. While there, he was chosen "Soldier of the Month. He worked as a Medic.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue his acting career and to attend UCLA. He received his master’s degree in Film from UCLA. John's acting name was Dilart Heyson. He was an actor known for Dr. Kildare (1961), Tarzan (1966), Sanford and Sons (1972) and others. He also worked for the Internal Revenue Service. He retired with over 25 years of service.
John was preceded in death by his parents Johnnie M. Lewis Booker and William Lewis, his brother Samuel L. Booker, Jr.
Surviving are Sisters: Dr. Jannith L. Lewis and Lynnette I. Booker; Nieces: Sawn Winfield, Crystal L. Booker, LaVera Miller; Nephew: Ricky Davis; 6 Great Nieces and Nephews and relatives and friends.
